“You don’t need to be straight

To fight and die for your country.You just need to shoot straight.” I’m sure a few of you know who made that comment. And for the ones who don’t, it was the man who created the Modern-Day Conservative Movement, Barry Goldwater. Whom some of you have seem to have forgotten.

Which brings me to,todays post. ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ Hits Women Much More

The Army and Air Force discharged a disproportionate number of women in 2007 under the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy that prohibits openly gay people from serving in the military, according to Pentagon statistics gathered by an advocacy group.

While women make up 14 percent of Army personnel, 46 percent of those discharged under the policy last year were women. And while 20 percent of Air Force personnel are women, 49 percent of its discharges under the policy last year were women.

That is rather upsetting and sad. I can not fathom someone telling another American they can’t wear the uniform because they don’t fit into the “White/Judea/Christian” male mold. It pains me to think that this happens here in this country.  And yes some of our servicemen agree with this as well.

My good friend The Gun Toting Liberal, who has served in Iraq, had this to say about this policy that President Clinton signed into law. “Gay men and women have been defending this country for decades and have done an excellent job of it.  To put one’s head under the sand and pretend only white, far-right neocon MEN are brave enough to defend our nation against agressors is a clear sign of ignorance on the part of the Pentagon and more than a few of my fellow Americans.  Gays and lesbians serve proudly and bravely in the United States military these days, thanks to the now-outdated Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy, they are quite open about their sexual preferences these days.  We all know who they are and we don’t ask and they don’t tell, as per the UCMJ.  While adhering to the UCMJ, it simply seems to be idiotic, the FACT my fellow troops of the “gay” persuasion must grin and put their finger over their lips so as to say “shhh!” when the truth is obvious enough.  Just because somebody is “gay” doesn’t mean they can’t kick your ass up around your ears and love America to the point they are willing to give 100% at all times toward eradicating America’s foreign enemies.  Stop the ignorance and eradicate the DADT policy NOW.  This opinion coming from an openly HETEROSEXUAL (mostly) white, HAPPILY married male.

Doesn’t get anymore “straight” than that. Let’s hope who ever is the next President, get’s rid of this disgusting, demoralizing policy.
