Over at the best magazines’ blog Daniel McCarthy asked’s if John Hostettler’s antiwar streak could resonate beyond the GOP base? And my question to that is, is it even an issue anymore to the general public?
With the election of President Obama making the antiwar movement impotent on the left side, I don’t even think it’s on people’s mind anymore. Sure Republicans will chest beat themselves over who’s tougher on the “War on Terror” but President Obama has pretty much done the same thing George W. Bush did. But the antiwar left has gone all but silent. So I don’t think the issue will even be made during the campaign. Would be shocked if it was.
To me the “establishment” antiwar movement of the past 8-9 years was all about the Democrats winning. As we have seen with the election of Obama and a majority Democrat congress. Much like the Tea Party movement really is all about getting Republicans back in power. Nothing “antiwar” about these folks, much like there’s nothing “limited government” about the Tea Party folks.
As for John Hostettler, it will be nice to see someone with a real deal Limited Government record get into the Senate. Imagine that, Sen.Rand Paul and Sen.John Hostettler. Nice ring to that.
Make sure you read this piece on John Hostettler by James Antle III.

Hoosiers are tired of these old debates when they want less taxes, less spending, and more JOBS. We need a candidate with a solid economic record. We need a proven conservative who is fresh face and UNtainted by Washington DC influences.
State Senator Marlin Stutzman is that man. He led the charge since last summer, not because it was popular or opportunistic to challenge Bayh, but because it was the right thing to do.
Stutzman is endorsed by RedState.com and is endorsed by the executive director of the American Majority project. We must unite behind Stutzman to defeat Dan “Weapons Ban” Coats.
Didn’t State Senator Stutzman vote to raise the unemployment taxes on Indiana businesses during a recession?
Dan, I don’t know where you got that information from, but on the IN legislature website it says quite the opposite:

Jobs & the Economy
As Indiana emerges from the national recession, Hoosier jobs will continue to be a top priority for lawmakers, Stutzman said. On just the fourth day of session, Senate Republicans passed a bill preventing new unemployment insurance premiums from going into effect in 2010 – saving Hoosier businesses nearly $300 million. By avoiding premium increases, lawmakers hope employers will be in a stronger position to retain or add employees in a tough economic environment.

Elliot, Dan..wanna thank you both for coming by my little space. Means a lot.
And for both comments, I don’t live in IN., so I don’t know how to answer or even comment on your comments. I was just talking about Mr. Hostettler from a Antiwar Conservative view. And from reading his record, I can see he would be good for us Limited Government folks.
