I just started reading a book called “Ain’t My America: The Long, Noble History of Antiwar Conservatism and Middle-American Anti-Imperialism” by Bill Kauffman. Which so far is fantastic book. From the title, I’m sure you can figure out what it’s about. And Daniel McCarthy from the best political magazine “The American Conservative”, has a great review of it.
Being what I would like think, a student of history, and having a fondness for the rebel rousers during the colonial period. I found this quote in the book, from one of the leaders of the Anti-Federalists, George Mason, to be prolific.
“I abominate and detest the idea of government, where there is a standing army,” George Mason told Virginia’s ratifying convention.
While thinking about that quote, have a listen to one of my favorites, Dream Theater, doing a song called “In the Name of God”.
Part 2 of it can be found here. Yes, like most of Dream Theater’s songs, it’s a long one.
