When it comes to Sen. Juan McAmnesty is he’s never worn his faith on his sleeve. I cheered him back in the 2000 primary when he equated Jerry Falwell and Pat Robinson to Jesse hi-Jackson, and Al Sharpton. I also said Amen!! when he called Jerry Falwell an “agent of intolerance“. But when he was selected as the Republican Presidential nominee, he started running to the likes of the most Anti-Catholic preachers. Like John Hagee, and Rod Parsley. And of course having denounced both of their endorsments. Rightfully so.
Now Fix News is reporting “McCain Still Gets Wary Eye From Southern Baptists”
The country is electing a president again, the Baptists are meeting again and John McCain’s campaign is nowhere to be seen at a gathering of 7,200 people, most of them staunch Republicans. The absence has some Southern Baptists wondering whether the Arizona senator wants their vote. Others are more sympathetic to a campaign still gearing up, a candidate not known for talking about his faith, and reticence McCain might feel over his recent rejection of two endorsements by high-profile, evangelical pastors.
My belief is that, this is a good thing. I’m happy to say, I like that he is shying away from the people who have cheered for “Big Government Conservatism” (oxy-moron) and the War. But they are still “wary” of Sen. McAmnesty? Strange I know. The two things they cheer most for, are the two things he’s known for.
But it seems that Gay Marriage is a huge issue for the Southern Baptist. I have blogged about that here. But if you don’t want to read that, all it says is, “You get married in a Church, not infront of a Judge”.
SBC “messengers,” or delegates, approved a resolution Wednesday night condemning the ruling as a “terrible wrong,” supporting a state amendment to overturn it and calling for a federal constitutional amendment prohibiting gay marriage. McCain opposes a federal marriage amendment, believing the question is for states.
Again, I agree with Sen. McAmnesty on this issue. The Government has no Consititutional right to be the “Moral Guiders” of society. Sorry to say that my evangelical friends. Church, and Familys do that, not the Federal Government.
Now, for the my main point of why I am writing this post is, my issue that these fine Americans seem to want to rally behind a “leader”.
“I can see why a lot of people, especially Republicans, don’t want to vote,” Amy Brandon said. “There’s so much uncertainty now — on the economy, on immigration. You almost want a Reagan, someone strong. I don’t think we have that in any of the candidates right now.”
We aren’t ever going to have another Ronald Reagan in our life times. To think we are is lunacy. And being the Radical Individualist that I am, I don’t like it when people want to rally around someone. Much like the left, and the White Guilt crowd has rallied around Sen. B.O. I find it immoral to think that a man, who is full of flaws, besides the Holy Father, can be a “leader”. For some reason I detect a bit of jealousy for the Sen. B.O crowd from the Southern Baptists.
Leaders, Shmeaders, I just want to be left alone. And why my vote is going to the Libertarian Presidential Nominee Bob Barr.
