There seems to be a bit of buzz going on with this gentleman. So, I took it upon myself to check the man’s “conservative” credentials. And what makes a Politician Conservative in my eyes? Easy. As Sen. Barry Goldwater said, “I’m not here to make laws, I’m here to repeal them”. And from the looks of it, Rep. Cantor is just another Big Government Republican.
Let’s take the Father-Land Homeland Security issue first. We see he voted FOR “federalizing rules for driver licenses to hinder terrorists.” That’s the REAL ID folks (extremely un-conservative). He voted FOR “allowing electronic surveillance without a warrant.” That’s the FISA bill (hardly conservative).
Now, let’s look at his Federal Camps Education votes. He voted FOR “requiring states to test students.” Un-conservative, total disregard for the 10th Amendment. He voted FOR “allowing school prayer during the War on Terror.” Again, the 10th Amendment. He voted AGAINST “allowing Courts to decide on “God” in Pledge of Allegiance.” This is were I break with a lot of folks on the Manufactured Right, I don’t believe in saying the Pledge of Allegiance.
Let’s look at his votes on “Technology”. He voted FOR “increasing fines for indecent broadcasting”. Meaning more Government oversight. He voted FOR “banning Internet gambling by credit card”. Again, more Government power. Both of these votes would have made Sen. Goldwater spin in his grave.
Now, I know I’m being a bit nick-picky about this and reading his record, he seems like a kind of “get along, go along” guy. But, the fact remains, these votes I listed above are highly Un-Conservative. Giving the Government more power, and restricting personal freedoms is a Democrats wet-dream.
Reading his list of votes and seeing he voted with the Republican Party 92.5%, all I’m seeing with this guys is another Dan Quayle if he is picked for Sen. Juan McAmensty’s VP.
