In the “Oh yes it is happening” department. Our military leaders who care so much for the children of deployed soldiers want to help them cope with “chat robots”. Awwww, how kind of them. Not!!!!
While Skype or similar teleconferencing technologies might seem like a more cost-effective and immediately available solution, the Defense Department rejects that possibility. The U.S. Department of Defense is looking to develop virtual parents to comfort children when moms and dads on active duty aren’t available to talk.
Okay folks. I know a lot of you believe that the Military can do no wrong, but come on. This is as creepy as it gets. Do you really want the US Government making sure childern of deployed parents are taken care of? I equate this with allowing a pedophile to have a free pass at the local kindergarten for a day.
What’s the Robot going to say? “Good morning little Johnny. Did you know your Mommy is a Great American for Killing people for the Government and maybe you will grow up to be a killer too? Oh and heres some frosted flakes“. Yeah, this isn’t going to be good.
“The child should be able to have a simulated conversation with a parent about generic, everyday topics,” the solicitation says. “For instance, a child may get a response from saying, ‘I love you,’ or ‘I miss you,’ or ‘Good night mommy/daddy.’ This is a technologically challenging application because it relies on the ability to have convincing voice-recognition, artificial intelligence, and the ability to easily and inexpensively develop a customized application tailored to a specific parent.”
Is this a bad Sci-Fi film or what? Government Robots, replacing traditional parents, as child care-takers. Steven Spielberg couldn’t have come up with a better plot. It’s like every dystopian novel has come to life. And we all allowed it to happen under the banner of “National Security”.
We’ve all seen the ending to this movie before, when machine replaces man. It’s not going to be good.
